Stan
Stan, an 8 year old Harris' Hawk, joined the OLC family last year. Raised by a Falconer from an egg, Stan is more like a house pet than a wild animal. Don't be fooled though, those talons could still give you a nasty cut! Stan has a slight injury to his right wing, but is still able to fly. Harris’ Hawks inhabit arid lowland areas, tropical deciduous forests and low seasonally
wet grasslands. A unique feature of the
Harris’ Hawk is that they hunt in groups and will either surround their prey,
flush it for another to catch or take turns chasing it. They nest in social units that can vary from
an adult pair up to seven individuals that includes both adults and juveniles.
